WorldTourist.com - (Hawaii) Packing List
BEFORE YOU LEAVE!
Try to limit your baggage, especially, if you are changing flights or
Island hopping. Often connecting flights are at opposite ends of the
airport. One roller bag with handle and one or two carry-on pieces are
ideal. Remember you can buy most needs upon arrival. Take less and
have room to bring something back!
Tip: Airline ticketing signs are often confusing. Lines can be
long, be sure you are standing in the correct line! Also, make sure luggage is
inspected before standing in line. Requirements vary with airlines but
figuring this out in advance will save you time!
- Medicine (If you are going to take any drugs that could be
misconstrued, be sure to include a letter from your doctor!)
- If you have reserved a room before you arrive, make
sure you have your hotels' phone number! Keep it with you
during your stay!
- Camera (film)
- Water shoes/sandals
- Drivers License, (Insurance Card) Hawaii requires that
you be 21 to rent a car!
- Wallet, Credit Card, Belly Pack
- Swim Suit - other swimming or diving equipment. (Most
equipment is available at rental shops. Mart stores carry a low end
variety if you want to purchase. Small beach towel for remote
areas. Most hotels provide pool towels, in fact, some
resorts request use of their personalized pool towels to monitor
unregistered guests.
- (Sun) Glasses, contacts, or hearing aid.
- Silk t-shirts, and underwear. If you are going for
any extended length of time, these items wash and dry overnight!
- A small miniature flashlight may be useful!
- Visor or hat, sunscreen (small), purchase more on the island if needed!
- Toiletries
When you arrive!
- At the Honolulu Airport you will find shuttle services to take you to the
car rental lots. You must "hail down the bus"
much like a cab. Otherwise they go right by you!!
- We found that during the off tourist season (before
school is out) you could get a better deal by arriving without a
reservation. Upon arrival secure a car and room rental package from
one of the car rental companies at the airport. Again it is a matter
of asking for the package or the best deal. This is usually only
available on the islands. We got a nice hotel in Waikiki with car
rental for $67.00 a day. It is usually about $100. for either one.
- When you arrive at the car rental companies check for
specials or packages! Ask for the best deal! Get the
rental companies phone number and keep it on your person!
- We found street signs in Hawaii sometimes confusing. Some
sign point left, but they mean straight ahead. Ask the rental
companies for a map to your hotel before you leave. Have someone help
navigate or keep the map close by!
- When you locate your hotel take a look at the skyline
and try to identify a landmark in your area of town. This will help
you find your way back in the early stages of your visit. Always look for a
landmark when driving and parking. Be sure to note your make of
car, color, and license number. Many vehicles we rented it is
possible to lock your key inside, this will ruin a day of your
vacation!
