The above pictures follow Highway 19 south along the east coast of the "Big Island". At Hilo, Highway 130 south junctions from Highway 19. Highway 130 is not clearly marked. If unsure, ask locally for Kanoelehua Avenue, which is highway 130 (SE). At the town of Keaau, Highway 11 junctions to the right and proceeds up the slopes of Mauna Loa. Most of this area, from Mauna Kea to Mauna Loa, contains exotic foliage and flowers indigenous to this tropical rainforest.
